Dispersion-hardening stainless steel 631
Dispersion-riser steel is a special class of metals with unique properties. Unlike ordinary steels, which are tempered by heating and fast cooling, dispersion-firm steels acquire strength and hardness due to a special microstructure. This is based on a special supplement, which, like tiny cobblestones, is distributed in the material, making it stronger and more stable to wear. One of these steels is stainless steel 631.
The composition and properties of steel 631
Steel 631 is, in fact, the rafting of iron with chrome, nickel and other additives. The key feature of 631 is the presence of very small particles of carbides, which are evenly distributed throughout the structure. These microscopic cobblestones prevent the movement of dislocations in the crystal lattice, which leads to a significant increase in strength and hardness at relatively low temperatures. Stainless steel 631 has high corrosion resistance due to the high chromium content. This makes it suitable for use in aggressive environments.
The areas of application of steel 631
Thanks to the combination of strength, hardness and corrosion resistance, steel 631 is used in various fields. For example, it is used in the production of parts for the automotive industry, where high wear resistance is required, for example, in the components of the exhaust system. Due to excellent resistance to high temperature, steel 631 is used in the chemical industry for the manufacture of equipment operating in aggressive media. It is also used in aircraft industry and other industries, where the combination of strength and corrosion resistance is a key factor.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantages of steel 631 are high strength, resistance to corrosion and relatively high plasticity. However, due to the specific production technology, steel 631 can be more expensive than ordinary steels. In addition, the complexity of processing may require special skills and tools. Despite these features, the dispersion-fracture properties and excellent corrosion resistance make steel 631 attractive material for many technical tasks.
